Never-ending battle science vs spirituality?

in the past(referring to the medieval ages especially dark ages) religion was the axis mundi, and its followers oppressed the scientists, now the tables have turned and the spiritual ppl became the oppressed ones.before it was witches and heretics, now its dumb believers and fanatics, will humanity never learn from its past?endless loop each time in a slightly diffident form? what's your opinion?
